How to grow Abutilon megapotamicum

Abutilon megapotamicum is not fully hardy and can only take temperatures down to minus five degrees centigrade. With this in mind it is best placed where it can be dug up and stored in a sheltered place over winter or up against a sheltered warm wall. It prefers a moist but well drained soil with slightly acid or neutral PH

It is best treated as a climber and looks it’s best when tied in to a trellis or arch. The plant can reach a height of two meters with a similar spread outwards.

The flowers appear in summer. The flowers come on new growth. The plant flowers best in full sun.

To get the plant thicker and bushier you can pinch out the branch tips

The plant can be propagated by softwood cuttings or seed in the spring
